The High & Lows of Cold & Flu Season

‘Tis-‘ the season for Cold and Flu season, seriously the worst time of the year especially when your pregnant and have a toddler. Pretty much a recipe for a miserable household. I’m going to share a few things that helps my family get through this terrible season!

Braun Thermometers

As a first time mom to Aleia, Cold and Flu season was always a stressful time for me. Aleia caught her first cold with a very high fever around 6 months. I was beyond thankful that I bought a reliable thermometer (Braun No Touch + Forehead thermometer) when she was born to get an accurate reading of her temperature. I can’t even tell you guys how much I have used and brought my Braun thermometer everywhere we travel to. Braun is #1 brand used by pediatricians and most definitely recommended by moms.

Just recently, Aleia, hubby and I caught a cold before we left on vacation and I had a chance to try out my new Braun ThermoScan 7 thermometer. This new thermometer by Braun is different from the No Touch + Forehead thermometer because instead of scanning your forehead, you get a reading by putting the tip in your child’s ear. This new thermometer is unique because it has the Age Precision Technology. Clinical research shows that the definition of fever changes as newborns grow into little kids and little kids grow into adults. The Age Precision helps parents interpret your child’s temperature considering their exact age. With the new Age Precision, you get the accuracy and has age-adjustable fever guidance which completely takes the guesswork out of interpreting your child’s temperature.

Steps to taking temperature with with Age Precision:

1.) Set your child’s age with the Age Precision Button.

2.) Check the temperature.

3.) The colour-coded fever indicator will help you understand and interpret the results and act accordingly – Green (normal temperature), yellow (elevated temperature) and red (high temperature).

After trying out the new Braun ThermoScan 7, I most definitely recommend this to everyone! It’s the best thermometer in the market and is considered the benchmark for accuracy.

VICKS HUMIDIFIERS: Vicks FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier and the Vicks Warm Steam Vapourizer

For as long as I can remember my family especially my parents have always used Vicks and honestly after having Aleia it has become my go-to during Cold & Flu season. I probably carry Vicks Baby Rub everywhere. Again, one of my first purchase as a new mom was a Vicks Humidifier for our master bedroom to help with Aleia’s cough and congestion. A congested baby is probably one of the worse things especially when your breastfeeding because baby struggles to eat and breathe at the same time and in the end no one sleeps. Beyond thankful for all the nights that our Vicks Humidifier helped with cold season and tending to a sick baby.

Studies have also shown that keeping indoor air at a Relative Humidity level of 40-60% reduces the survival of flu viruses on surfaces and in the air. Having a humidifier regularly also helps with sleep, fight against viruses, dry skin, nosebleeds, stuffy nose and sore throat.

To help with the Cold and Flu season this year I have the Vicks FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier in our Master bedroom and the Vicks Warm Steam Vapourizer in Aleia’s room. I love that both humidifiers offer the same benefits, so it all comes down to what you prefer. The Cool Mist humidifier help maintain overall room temperature in conjunction with Vicks VapoPads soothing scent. The Warm Mist humidifiers work with liquid inhalants like Vicks VapoSteam to provide cough relief and added comfort. The Filtered humidifiers remove minerals from the water and deliver invisible moisture into the air and the filter-free models deliver visible mist but should be used with demineralization cartridges to help prevent white dust.

These are a few things that helps me get through the Cold and Flu season, I hope this helps you get through this season!
